Forget “Drill Baby Drill”

Even with all the doom & gloom in the media, there are two positive things about our economy:

 

First, Forbes Magazine ranks Colorado Springs #7 in it’s top ten cities where home prices are likely to start rising in 2009.  Our local economy is expected to experience 2% growth and 1.6% average annual job growth.  This means more in-migration and more money in the economy, factors that point to the fact that we may be near the bottom of the market.  So it is time to “Buy Baby Buy”. 

 

Second, mortgage rates have plunged below 6% for the first time in a couple of years.  Combining the great interest rate with the new first time homebuyer’s $7500 tax credit/interest free loan makes buying a home particularly attractive.

 

This is also great news for those who want to refinance their existing home.  Loan applications are up 18% in the past month according to The Mortgage Bankers Association.
