Most of the population and traffic within Teller County is in the southern area composing the towns of Woodland Park, Divide and Florissant. U.S. Highway 24 runs through these towns and directly to Colorado Springs. Teller County naturally divides into the Northern and Southern areas. In Southern Teller County you find the towns of Cripple Creek and Victor, both historical mining towns. Cripple Creek was incorporated in 1892. It is designated a National Historical Landmark District with a number of historical buildings. Cripple Creek has experienced rejuvenation the past few years since being selected as one of three Colorado towns with limited casino gambling. Cripple Creek is the County Seat of Teller County and has a current population of around 1,500. It is a high mountain community at an elevation of 9,494 feet. Victor is a smaller town of about 500 people. It is located about 6 miles southwest of Cripple Creek.
