The Woodland Park region is home to endless miles of trails for nature viewing, horseback riding, and mountain biking. In the winter, the same trails are used for cross-country skiing and snow shoeing. Runners and bikers use the Woodland Park area for high altitude training, so there are a number of races and events throughout the year. A paved trail connects hikers and bikers to Manitou Lake, a great spot for trout fishing and picnics just a few miles north of the city. Rampart Range Reservoir is about eight miles from Woodland Park, where ice fishing has become a winter favorite. In addition to miles of trails and open space, Woodland Park has 25 acres of maintained parks, including Memorial Park, Meadow Wood Park, Bergstrom Park, and Lion's Park. Families enjoy a variety of playgrounds, picnic areas, fishing spots, ice skating, softball, and special events. The pond at Memorial Park opens for ice skating in the winter, and hockey players can use the rink at the Meadow Wood Sports Complex. For golfers, there's an 18-hole public course with incredible mountain views just two miles from the center of town.
