The Pikes Peak Region has a reputation for being one of the most "military friendly" areas in the United States. It is estimated that 40% of the economy of the area is directly or indirectly related to the military. Fort Carson, U.S. Army Post, has served our nation since WW II. It continues to grow today. The Air Force Academy has been a fixture since 1954 attracting over a million visitors per year. Peterson Air Force Base, Falcon Air Force Base, and Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Base are all home to space command centers. Cheyenne Mountain has been headquarters for the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) since the early 1960's.
